The ultimate guide to travelling to the snow by motorcoach

It is a way of travelling that every day has more followers and for which it is no longer necessary to have your own vehicle, because thanks to companies like ours you can enjoy this experience with one of our motorhomes for rent. Some of the advantages that you can benefit from:
- You have the possibility to park at the foot of the slopes and you won’t have to carry your ski or snow equipment from one place to another.
- If the slopes are closed, you have the possibility to take your accommodation to other slopes that are open.

This year it will be very difficult to travel by motorhome due to the state of alarm decreed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this summer, the motorhome has proved to be one of the safest types of vehicle, as it does not share common areas, which makes it easier to keep your distance from other tourists and, in addition, travelling in the company of only your family unit helps to reduce contact with external social groups.

The state of alarm currently prohibits us from circulating in Andalusia from 22:00 to 06:00 in the morning, so we will have to lock ourselves in our vehicle. We will also have to take into account the different territorial access limitations that may exist at any given time.
Winter driving is characterised by adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snowfall, fog and limited daylight hours. For this reason, we give you a series of recommendations to take into account depending on the meteorological phenomenon you are facing:
* Cold
Our vehicles are conditioned and prepared to spend the night surrounded by snow. Their weakest point is in the cabin, where the windows transmit the cold very efficiently.
For this reason we recommend the use of multi-layer darkening sunshades, which are a little more cumbersome to use but are more insulating than folded paper curtains.
It is also advisable to carry a full tank of diesel, as we never know when we will be able to fill up and need the heating. It is also advisable to fill the tank when you arrive at your destination.

* Snow
There are different types of chains, but the classic metal ones will be more useful than textile ones because of the weight of our vehicles and because the textile ones last less and have to be removed as soon as the snow is gone.
A photo with our motorhome in the snow is something to remember and to show to friends, but we must bear in mind that a layer of 20 to 30 cm of snow on top of our motorhome can be 200 kg or more, and it can also occlude the ventilation chimney, so we must remove it at the earliest opportunity.
* Wind
From the first time we drive our motorhome we realise that any gust of wind affects us much more than when we drive our car, now that we are driving a vehicle more than two and a half metres high and more than six metres long. So slowing down and keeping a firm grip on the steering wheel is the best advice, especially when driving into lorries, out of tunnels or out of the shelter of an embankment.
